Purpose of the Referee Mentor
1. To support the flow of new talent to the regional referee program
2. To increase retention among newly trained referees
3. To develop referees for advancement (i.e. National Program)
4. To enhance the experience of referees and players
5. To develop mentoring skills among mentors
6. To support the six philosophies of AYSO
Referee Mentor
Referee Mentor Identification, Appointment and Assignment
The Referee Mentor Director with the assistance and support of the Regional Commissioner, the Area Referee Administrator and the Regional Referee Administrator, and the Regional Referee Instructor will identify and appoint a Referee to be trained to act as a Referee Mentor.
Referee Mentor Qualifications
- Regional Referee Certification. Intermediate Referee Certification is recommended.
- Completion of the module "The AYSO National Referee Program" from the Intermediate Referee Course.
- Current Safe Haven Certification & Volunteer Form
- At least three (3) years of experience as a Referee
- Appointment: Appointed as a Referee Mentor by the Director of Regional Referee Mentors or the Regional Commissioner
